Headlamp, as an indispensable part of outdoor exploration and work activities, their safety and performance has been widely concerned. To ensure the quality, safety and performance of the headlamps, the headlamp industry has developed a series of standards. This article introduces some of the major standards of the headlamp industry, focusing on the standards to follow to guide consumers in choosing and use of headlights.

Part I: An overview of the major standards of the headlamp industry

1. International standard--ISO 3001:2017

ISO 3001:2017 is the standard issued by the International Standards Organization (ISO) for handheld flashlights, headlamps and similar equipment. It covers a range of performance and safety requirements, including beam strength, battery life, waterproof performance, etc.

2. European standard -- EN 62471: 2008

EN 62471:2008 It is the standard of light radiation safety issued by the European Standardization Council (CEN), and is applicable to all kinds of lighting equipment, including headlights. It specifies the safety requirements of light radiation at different wavelengths for the human eye and skin.

3.United States Standard -- ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019

The ANSI / PLATO FL1-2019 standard, published by the National Standards Association (ANSI), is one of the most common standards in the headlamp industry. It covers many aspects, including the brightness of the headlamps, battery life, waterproof performance, impact resistance, etc., to provide consumers with an intuitive comparison of different headlamp performance.

Part II: Standards to follow for outdoor headlamps

1 Waterproof performance standard- -IPX grade

Outdoor headlamp in the face of unpredictable outdoor environment, its waterproof performance is particularly critical. The IPX grade is a standardized representation of the waterproof performance of the headlamps, and the waterproof grade of the outdoor headlamps depends on the waterproof level required for the design.

Common waterproof grade:

IPX4: It means that the headlamp resists water droplets flying from any direction.

IP65: It can protect against objects 1 cm in diameter and impact them at 5 meters per second. This grade works for some outdoor headlamps that are designed to be waterproof and impact.

IP67: It can protect objects 1 cm in diameter and hit them at 5 meters per second, but it should avoid water mist for at least 36 hours.

IP68: It can protect against objects with a diameter of 1 cm and hit them at a speed of 5 meters per second. It can be waterproof for 36 hours, but it should not be used in water mist.

IP69(also called IP69.5): It can protect against a diameter of 1 cm and hit at a speed of 5 meters per second, which can be waterproof for 36 hours, but can not protect against sharp objects, or can not prevent water mist.

Ipx7(also called IPX7): It can protect the objects of 1 cm in diameter and hit at a speed of 5 meters per second, which can be waterproof for 72 hours, but should not be pierced by sharp objects.

2  Beam intensity and illuminance criteria- -the effect of ANSI / PLATO FL 1-2019

ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 The standard specifies the beam intensity and illumination test method of the headlamp. This helps consumers to understand the lighting performance of lights and ensure that they have sufficient lighting capacity in outdoor activities.

3 Battery management and power standards- -Battery capacity and charging performance

Outdoor headlamps are often used for a long time, so battery capacity and charging performance are crucial. The corresponding standards should include provisions on battery life, charging time, and battery stability.

4 Quality and reliability standards- -durability and impact resistance

Outdoor headlamps are often used in harsh conditions, such as hiking, camping, etc. Therefore, the durability of the headlamp and the impact resistance of the headlamp are the important criteria to investigate its quality.

5 Safety standard- -light radiation safety

The light radiation of the outdoor headlamp shall meet the relevant safety standards to ensure that the user will not adversely affect the vision when using it, and shall meet the light radiation safety standards such as EN 62471:2008.

Part III: the implementation and certification of the headlamp industry standards

Implementation of the standards- -the manufacturer follows the standards

Headlamp manufacturers should actively follow the corresponding industry standards to ensure that the performance and safety of their products meet international requirements and improve the market competitiveness of outdoor headlamp products.

Certification from Third party

Outdoor headlamps include China CCC certification, American FCC certification, European CE certification, Australian SAA certification, etc

CE:

In the European market, headlamp manufacturers usually apply for CE certification to prove that their products meet the relevant European safety and performance standards. It is seen as a passport for manufacturers to open up and enter the European market. The CE represents the European Unification (CONFORMITE EUROPEENNE). All the headlamp products with the "CE" logo can be sold in the EU member countries, without meeting the requirements of each member state, thus realizing the free circulation of goods within the EU member states. It covers the safety of the. health. Environmental protection and other standards, including EMC, LVD and other tests

ROHS

This is a mandatory certification in the European market to ensure that headlamp products are free of hazardous substances. His main limiting substances include lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr 6 +), polybromated biphenyls (PBs) and polybromated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). These substances are widely used in the manufacturing process of electronic devices, but they are potentially harmful to health and the environment.

E-mark

This is a mandatory certification in the European market to ensure that headlamp products meet European safety and environmental requirements and can be used on roads.

UL

In the US market, UL certification is one of the common certification, and the headlamp manufacturers with UL certification can prove that their products conform to the US national standards.

Part IV: Certification of batteries

The certification requirements of built-in battery products for outdoor headlamps mainly include two aspects: one is the safety certification of the battery itself, and the other is the temperature test report. Specifically, the battery needs to meet the IEC / EN62133 or UL2054 / UL1642 standards, which is the international and American standard for battery safety. At the same time, temperature test reports are also required to ensure the safety performance of the battery under specific temperature conditions.

Use: applicable to all CB members, covering the vast majority of four continents.

2.EN 62133:2013 Report

Use: Safety assessment reports that must be provided for lithium batteries entering the EU member state market

3. CE-EMC  (Stardard:EN 61000-6-1/EN 61000-6-3)

Use: Electromagnetic compatibility assessment report that must be provided for lithium batteries entering the EU member state market

4. ROHS(six items)and Reach Directive(108 items)

Use: Chemical composition assessment reports that must be provided for lithium batteries to enter the EU member state market

5. KC(Standard:KC 62133(2015-07) )

Use: mandatory access requirements in South Korea

6. The Australian RCM Registration

RCM Use: Australian mandatory access requirements, CISPR 22 report and IEC 62133 report registration RCM

OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certification: This is an international standard used to ensure a safe and healthy working environment and protect employees from work-related injuries and diseases.
